Siemens Warns of Industrial Virus

Beware of a new and highly sophisticated virus that goes after computers used to manage large-scale industrial control systems used by manufacturing and utility companies, warns Siemens.

According to Computerworld, the virus targets Siemens' management software Simatic WinCC, which runs on Windows. Experts believe that it was likely designed to steal secrets from manufacturing plants and other industrial facilities.

Rather than exploiting a bug in the Siemens system to get onto a PC, the software uses a previously undisclosed Windows bug to break into the system. The virus spreads through an infected USB stick.
