RSA: Phishing Attacks Set Record in January

According to security vendor RSA, January saw a 21 percent increase in phishing attacks over the month before.

Fast-flux attacks, in which phishing sites are masked by a constantly changing network of compromised host PCs, made up 24 percent of phishing incidents in January, while there was a 12 percent increase in standard phishing attacks compared with December, reports V3.co.uk.

The report also noted a growing trend of phishing attacks against colleges and universities. As we reported on our Network Security Edge site, an Internet phishing scam put the personal information of more than 600 University of California-San Francisco patients at risk.
