Phishers Casting Wider Net, Reeling in High-Value Targets

The Anti-Phishing Working Group's latest phishing activity report shows that phishers are targeting smaller prey and are getting more skillful at accessing the credentials of high-value targets.

eSecurity Planet reports that organized phishing syndicates are going after smaller brands with the same sophisticated schemes as the big guys. APWG's report also found an uptick in phishing attacks focused on high-value targets, like high-ranking employees in personnel and treasury departments or C-level executives.

Phishers must be finding huge success as security vendor RSA reports that January saw a 21 percent increase in phishing attacks over the month before.
