McAfee Warns of Fake Anti-Virus Scams

According to V3.co.uk, McAfee is using its first Consumer Threat Alert to warn Web users of the dangers of fake antivirus scams.

Not only should users be on the lookout for bogus ads that prompt them to "scan" their computer for viruses, but they should also be wary of free screensavers and other applications from non-trusted sources. Over the past year, McAfee says it has seen a fourfold increase in the number of "scareware" incidents.

The Consumer Threat Alertoffers a video of the real-life experience of a “scareware” victim. It also lists three common scams to watch out for and tips for avoiding them.
