IE Attacks More Widespread, Warn Security Companies

Security researchers are warning that an unpatched flaw in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser is not just being used in targeted attacks anymore. Instead, the exploits are much more widespread, according to Computerworld.

Roger Thompson, AVG's chief research officer, says two cyber gangs have started using the exploit. One uses it to install fake antivirus software on a victim's computers, while the second group uses it to install a variant of the Sinowal Trojan.

Trend Micro's Paul Ferguson agrees that attacks are on the rise, saying:

It's popping up all over the place.
